Etymology

Nothogenus for intergeneric hybrids between Gymnocalycium and Rebutia.

The names of nothogenera for bigeneric hybrids are formed by combining the names of the parental genera "into a single word, using the first part or the whole of one, the last part or the whole of the other (but not the whole of both) and, optionally, a connecting vowel" (article H.6.2, International Code of Nomenclature).

According to Rowley (Brit. Cact. Succ. J. 18(1): 29. 2000) the alleged hybrid in question is in fact “wholly Rebutia“.

IPNI (personal communication, July 21, 2022) considers this an orthographical variant of ×Gymnobutia P.V.Heath (1992) which does not affect the legitimacy of Gymnorebutia Doweld (2002).
