Vatrican + Latin -Äa, the recommended suffix to form plant genus names from personal names that end with a consonant (Rec. 60B.1(b), International Code of Nomenclature). Named for Monegasque agronomist Louis Vatrican (1904-2007), director of the Jardin Exotique de Monaco and founder member of the International Organization of Succulent Plants.
