Etymology

Latin sŭb ‘almost, more or less’ + Latin cylindrĭcus ‘cylindrical’. Machado & Taylor: “The subspecific epithet refers to the shape of the stem-segments, which are almost cylindrical in the older basal and intermediate portions of the plants.”
