Etymology

Latin montānus ‘mountain-‘. Britton & Rose: “This species was found well up on the side of Alamos Mountain, associated with Lemaireocereus thurberi [= Stenocereus thurberi], but usually at a higher altitude than that at which that species is generally found.”
