🌵 Author(s) | Charles Lemaire |
🌵 Type | Schlumbergera epiphylloides |
Named for “a distinguished amateur, Monsieur Schlumberger, of Anthieux, whose judicious and interesting communications on the flowers of the cacti readers of the Revue horticole have certainly not forgotten”, presumably Frédéric Schlumberger (1823–1893). See also Peter Coxhead, Origin of the generic name Schlumbergera, 2011.
Not to be confused with Schlumbergeria É.Morren (1878), a genus in the family Bromeliaceae named for a Mr. P. Schlumberger of Les Anthieux (possibly the same person as Frédéric Schlumberger).
