Latin Pacheco-Leōnis, genitive (possessive) form of Pacheco Leo, latinization of Pacheco Leão (Portuguese leão, Latin lĕo ‘lion’). Named for Brazilian botanist Antônio Pacheco Leão (1872-1931), director of the Jardim Botânico in Rio de Janeiro and editor of Arquivos do Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro, the journal in which the name was published.
