Etymology

Latin grandis ‘large’ + Latin –flōrus ‘flowered’. For the size of the flowers compared to other Rhipsalis species known at the time. According to Eggli & Newton (Etymological Dictionary of Succulent Plant Names. 2004) grandiflorus is the most frequently used epithet for succulent plants (21 taxa).
