Etymology

Latin bacca ‘berry’ + Latin –fer ‘carrying’. For the fruits. Mueller: “The common name Berry Bearing Cassyta, with many seeds.”

English name: mistletoe cactus. Compare Ixocactus, a Rhipsalis-like mistletoe genus (Loranthaceae).
