Etymology

German Meisterstück ‘masterpiece’. Also known as Rebutia hybrida albiflora ‘Meisterstück’ (Kakteen And. Sukk. 16(3): title page. 1965) and ‘Stirnadels Meisterstück’ (Kunzmann in Kakteen And. Sukk. 24(7): 161-162. 1973) after German nurseryman Alfred Stirnagel, who raised this hybrid. According to Curt Backeberg (Kakteenlexikon: 386. 1979) the parent species are a Rebutia and a Pseudolobivia like Pseudolobivia polyancistra (= Echinopsis ancistrophora). If this is indeed the case, the correct name for this cultivar is ×Echinobutia ‘Meisterstück’.
