Latin glŏmus (stem glŏmĕr-) ‘clew, ball made by winding’ + Latin saeta, sēta ‘bristle’. For the spines, described by Cárdenas as “bristle-like, numerous, 2.3 cm. long, white, rather appressed, interlaced and hiding the light green and umbilicate stems”.
