Pterocactus valentini

Pterocactus valentini Speg. ()

Etymology

Named for Argentinian botanical collector Dr. J. Valentin, who found the plant near Trelew, Argentina, in 1897.

Michael Kießling miscorrected the epithet to valentinii when the transfered the species to Opuntia. The name Valentin has a “well-established latinized form”, namely Valentinus, that takes the genitive Valentini (article 60.8, International Code of Nomenclature).
