Nahuatl peyotl ‘Lophophora williamsii, mescal button’.
A name by Francisco Hernández de Toledo (1514-1587) only published in 1790, without a validating description. Of course, it was never Hernández’s intention to publish a name under Linnaean taxonomy, the starting point for which is May 1, 1753.
