Pereskia + Opuntia (the compound should correctly be Pereskiopuntia). For the similarity to Pereskia and the relationship to Opuntia. A name sometimes used instead of the correct Pereskiopsis for Opuntiads with a Pereskia-like habit, based on Weber’s Opuntia sect. Pereskopuntia. Also spelled Peireskopuntia, Pereskiopuntia and Peireskiopuntia.
