Etymology

Latin ăcūlĕātus ‘spiny, thorny, prickly’. Based on the pre-Linnaean name Pereskia aculeata, flore albo, fructu flavescente Plum. (Miller: “Prickly Pereſkia with a white flower, and a yellowiſh fruit”).
