Curt Backeberg (who described the taxon invalidly as Navajoa fickeisenii in Cact. Succ. J. Gr. Brit. 22(3): 49. 1960): “The plant is named in honour of the discoverers, Mr. and Mrs. Fickeisen ; the plants were received from Mrs. Florence R. Fickeisen”. The original spelling fickeisenii (masculine singular) is therefore correctable to fickeiseniorum (plural). Lyman Benson (Pediocactus peeblesianus var. fickeiseniae L.D.Benson, nom. inval.) miscorrected it to fickeneiseniae (feminine plural).
