Frailea, the name of a cactus genus + Greek –oeidēs ‘resembling’. Lowry & Arnold: “Mats [Winberg] commented that the plants looked “like little Fraileas” thus appropriately coining a descriptive epithet for this diminutive plant. […] Etymology: The epithet alludes to the small size and appearance of the species, i.e. looking like a Frailea.”
