Etymology

Latin cŏlumnāris ‘columnar’. For the growth form, described by Cárdenas as “cespitose, almost clavate with short columns” (“Caespitosus, brevi columnaribus fere clavatus”). Cárdenas: “This new species is readily distinguished by its tubular or urceolate flowers and its columnar habit.”
