Etymology

Latin HaenquÄi, genitive (possessive) form of HaenquÄus, latinization of Haenke. Probably named for Czech botanist Thaddäus (Tadeáš) Haenke (1761-1816), who collected plants in Peru, using the implicit latinization Haenquius. The “corrected” spelling haenkeana suggested by Richard Crook and Roy Mottram (Bradleya 16: 128-129. 1998) is contrary to article 60.9 of the International Code of Nomenclature.
