Latin chlōrōtĭcus ‘pale green’. For the pale stem segments (Engelmann & Bigelow: “articulis […] pallidis”). Engelmann later (Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 3(7): 422. 1896) described the color as “pale glaucous”.
