Etymology

Named for Mexican botanist Fernando Chiang (1943-). Scheinvar & Manzanero: “The name of this species is a tribute to the illustrious and dedicated botanist Fernando Chiang, a researcher at the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, who has always supported us in translating the original descriptions of new taxa into Latin.”
