Etymology

For the occurrence in Navajo County, Arizona. The name is probably inspired by Utahia and Coloradoa, which are both mentioned in the protologue.

Alexander Doweld, who considered this name a homonym of the fossil plant genus Navajoia Wieland (1928), published the replacement name Neonavajoa in 1999.
