Melocactus violaceus subsp. margaritaceus

Melocactus violaceus subsp. margaritaceus N.P.Taylor ()
🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Published in Bradleya 9: 57 (1991)
Etymology

Latin margărīta ‘pearl’ + Latin –ācĕus ‘resembling’. Not explained by Taylor, who based the epithet on Melocactus margaritaceus Rizzini, nom. inval. (publication not seen). Presumably for the white fruit, which distinguishes the taxon from Melocactus violaceus subsp. violaceus and Melocactus violaceus subsp. ritteri (Taylor in Bradleya 9: 55. 1991)
