Etymology

Named for Silvério José Nery or Néri (1858-1934), governor of the state of Amazonas, Brazil, where the species was found. Originally misspelled Negryi, corrected by Schumann in Gesamtbeschr. Kakt. Nachtr.: 130-131 (1903).
