Etymology

Bahia + Latin –ensis, geographical suffix. For the occurrence in Bahia, Brazil. Britton & Rose: “The plant was found only at a single locality in central Bahia [near Machado Portella], but it was there very common and will doubtless be obtained from other localities.”
