Latin Haynei, genitive (possessive) form of Hayneus, latinization of Hayne. Not explained by Salm-Dyck. According to RΓΌmpler (Handb. Cacteenk. 2: 559. 1886) named for German botanist Friedrich Gottlieb Hayne (1763-1832). Salm-Dyck’s original spelling haynii (based on the implicit latinization Haynius) is correctable to haynei under article 60.9 of the International Code of Nomenclature (see Ex. 31).
