Etymology

Named for Argentine botanist José Fortunato Molfino (1892–1964). Spegazzini: “I have made it my duty to dedicate this interesting species to the young and industrious Argentine botanist and friend, Mr. José F. Molfino, who had the grace to provide me with the specimen that has served me for this study.”
