Etymology

Greek mikros β€˜small’ + Greek anthos β€˜flower’. For the small flowers compared to other Cereus species. Vaupel: “The whole habit of the plant is reminiscent of a strong leaf-like Rhipsalis; however, the occurrence of tufts of wool and spines on the ovary excludes it from this genus and refers it to the genus Cereus, in which it is admittedly also exceptional because of its small flowers.”
