Etymology

Latin Williamsĭi, genitive (possessive) form of Williamsĭus, latinization of Williams. Named for “Mr Williams, a keen enthusiast from the London area” (Cels), presumably British cactus collector the Rev. Theodore Williams of Hendon, whose gardener George Lawrence described the genus Echinofossulocactus.
