Etymology

Named for Irish geographer, natural scientist and traveller Joseph Barclay Pentland (1797-1873), who, according to Theodor RΓΌmpler (Carl Friedrich FΓΆrster’s Handbuch der Cacteenkunde, 2. Auflage: 611. 1886), collected seeds of this species “on the highest mountains” of Peru.
