Latin scŏpŭlus ‘rock, cliff’ + Greek –philos ‘-loving’. “the rock-loving habit of this species”, which was described as “endemic to the limestone summits and rocky hillsides of Somorrostro Hill, 25 km southeast of La Habana, Cuba” (Areces-Mallea).
