Lepismium commune

Lepismium commune Pfeiff., ()
🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Type of Lepismium
Etymology

Latin commÅ«nis ‘common, ordinary’. A new name for Cereus squamulosus, presumably to avoid the tautological combination Lepismium squamulosum where both the generic name and the specific epithet mean ‘scaled’.

Pfeiffer should have taken up the epithet squamulosus when he transfered this species to Lepismium, but since Cereus squamulosus was rejected against Cactus cruciformis in 1999, the correct name for this taxon is now Lepismium cruciforme.
