Etymology

Spanish jueño(?), derived from a place name(?) + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. This name is mentioned in a letter by Harry Johnson quoted by W. Taylor Marshall (in Saguaroland 8(8): 91-92. 1954). Johnson wrote he intended to publish this name for a night-blooming species related to Borzicactus. Perhaps identical to Jaënocereus.
