Etymology

JaĆ©n? + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. According to Zdeněk PodeÅ”va (BotanickĆ½ slovnĆk) named for JaĆ©n, Cajamarca, Peru, but the single included species, JaĆ«nocereus nigripilis (= presumably Leucostele nigripilis), is only known from Chile. Perhaps identical to Juenocereus.

A provisional catalog name by Hans Krainz. According to Backeberg (Cactaceae 6: 3904. 1962) perhaps a misprint or a corrupted name.
