Etymology
🌵 Author(s) | Hans Krainz |
🌵 Type | Jaënocereus nigripilis |
Jaén? + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. According to Zdeněk Podešva (Botanický slovník) the name refers to Jaén, Cajamarca, Peru, but the single included species, Jaënocereus nigripilis (= presumably Leucostele nigripilis), is only known from Chile. Perhaps identical to Juenocereus.
A provisional catalog name by Hans Krainz. According to Backeberg (Cactaceae 6: 3904. 1962) perhaps a misprint or a corrupted name.
