Greek hymēn (stem hymen-) ‘thin skin, membrane, caul’ + Rebutia. For the affinity to Rebutia and the “very strongly developed” “hymeno” [sic] (Succulenta 20(4): 55. 1938), i.e. a “paracorolla-like skin” (Succulenta 20(3): 38. 1938) consisting of fused stamens.
