Etymology

Haage + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. Named for German cactus nurseryman Walther Haage (1899-1992). Not for Friedrich Adolph Haage (1796-1866), as Helmut Genaust (Etymologisches Wörterbuch der botanischen Pflanzennamen. 3. Auflage. 1996) claims.
