Etymology

Faust + Cereus, the name of a genus of columnar cacti and a designation for columnar cacti in general. Named after the type species, Borzicactus faustianus (= Loxanthocereus faustianus). Ritter: “[a subgenus] which I name Faustocereus after the type species faustianus”. The type species is named for German botanist Karl (Carlos) Faust (1874-1952).
