Etymology

Nothogenus for intergeneric hybrids between Gymnocalycium and Rebutia.

The names of nothogenera for bigeneric hybrids are formed by combining the names of the parental genera "into a single word, using the first part or the whole of one, the last part or the whole of the other (but not the whole of both) and, optionally, a connecting vowel" (article H.6.2, International Code of Nomenclature).

According to Rowley (Brit. Cact. Succ. J. 18(1): 29. 2000) the alleged hybrid in question is in fact “wholly Rebutia“.

IPNI (personal communication, July 21, 2022) considers this an orthographical variant of Ă—Gymnobutia P.V.Heath (1992) which does not affect the legitimacy of Gymnorebutia Doweld (2002).
