Etymology

Latin Parishiōrum ‘of the Parishes’. Named for Samuel Bonsall Parish (1838-1928) and W.F. Parish, who studied the flora of southern California. Orcutt: “The Messrs. Parish have hardly earned this light honor in many laborious trips through these [Mojave] desert regions.”

The original epithet parishii (singular) is correctable to parishiorum (plural) under article 60.8 of the International Code of Nomenclature.
