Etymology

Greek erythros ‘red’ + Greek akantha ‘spine’. For the color of the spines. Pontes, Oliveira & Deble: “The epithet came from greek [sic] erythros (ερυθροσ [sic, recte ἐρυθρός]), that means red and akantha (ακανθα), meaning spine, making reference to the coloring of the spines, a striking feature of this new taxon.”
