Eulychnocactus

Eulychnocactus Backeb., ()
🌵 Author(s)
🌵 Type Eulychnocactus bolivianus
Etymology

Greek eu ‘good, beautiful, true’ + Greek lychnia ‘lampstand’ + Cactus. Publication not seen. Presumably for the columnar habit. Compare Eulychnia. A nomen nudum for what Backeberg would later call Erdisia subgen. Corryoerdisia (Backeberg, Cactaceae 6: 3903. 1962).

The type species Eulychnocactus bolivianus was later validly described by Cárdenas as Corryocactus melanotrichus var. caulescens (= Corryocactus melanotrichus). Backeberg (l.c.) claimed he discovered it before Cárdenas but did not describe it.
