Etymology

Greek eu– ‘true’ + Echinopsis. Frič and Kreuzinger introduced this name for “only the soft-fleshed real Echinopsis in the concept of the author of the genus Echinopsis (Zucc[arini] 1837)” and used “Echinopsis” (including the quotation marks) for unclassified species in their Echinopsieae group.
