Etymology

Latin albĭdus ‘whitish’ + Latin –flōrus ‘flowered’. For the pale yellow to almost white inner petals, which distinguish the taxon from Pyrrhocactus chilensis var. chilensis (= Eriosyce chilensis var. chilensis). Ritter: “A var. chilensi recedit […] petalis […] interioribus pallide flavis ad subalbis”, “innere [Kronblätter] blaßgelb oder fast weiß, seltener rosa”.
