Etymology

Latin cālīgo (stem cālīgĭn-) ‘mist, fog’ + Greek –philos ‘loving’. For “the complete dependence of the plants on fog”. “Although it is the rain that allows E. caligophila to flourish, it is the permanent fog at the site that enables its survival during dry periods” (Pinto).

The original epithet caligophila is correctable to caliginiphila under Art. 60.10 of the International Code of Nomenclature.
