Contraction of epiphytic and Cactus. A vernacular name for intergeneric hybrids of unknown provenance in the subtribe Hylocereinae (especially between the genera Aporocactus, Disocactus and Selenicereus) sometimes used as though it were a generic name. Also called epiphyllum (see Epiphyllum), hybrid epiphyllum, phyllocactus (see Phyllocactus) or phyllo. There is no way to name intergeneric hybrids under the International Code of Nomenclature if one or both parent genera are unknown.
If the provenance is known, the following nothogenera can be used:
- ×Aporodisocactus C.Knebel = Aporocactus × Disocactus
- ×Seleniporocactus G.D.Rowley (not ×Aporicereus Mottram) = Aporocactus × Selenicereus
- ×Disoselenicereus E.Meier = Disocactus × Selenicereus
- ×Dilectus M.van der Meer = Aporocactus × Disocactus × Selenicereus
