Etymology

Latin sub ‘almost’ + Latin dēnūdātus ‘uncovered’. For the “subdenudate habit”, i.e. the “quite spineless high hatched ribs” (Cárdenas). Now considered a spineless form of Echinopsis ancistrophora.
