Latin sulphÅrÄ•us ‘sulphurous, sulphur-yellow’, in botanical Latin ‘a pale lively yellow, with a mixture of white’ (Stearn, Botanical Latin. 3rd Edition. 1983). For color of the inner perianth segments, described by Vásquez as “sulfurea” [sic] in Latin and as “licht geel” (light yellow) in Dutch.
