Etymology

Graft-chimaeral genus for intergeneric graft-chimaeras of Echinopsis and Gymnocalycium.

The names of graft-chimaeral genera are formed "by combining part of the name of the genus of one of the component genera, connected by a vowel, with the full name of the other component genus (condensed formula), and prefixing the addition sign β€œ+”" (article 24, International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants).

Based on +Echinogymnocalycium ‘Japan’ Mottram (Echinopsis eyriesii + Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii [= Gymnocalycium stenopleurum]). Another graft-chimaera between these genera is Echinopsis tubiflora + Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. fleischerianum (= Gymnocalycium paraguayense) (Van de Meuter in Succulenta (Netherlands) 93 (1): 35. 2014).

This is a replacement name for the invalid +Echinocalycium.
