Etymology

Latin Lindsayо̄rum ‘of the Lindsays’. Named for American botanist George Edmund Lindsay (1916-2002), specialist in the flora of Baja California, and his wife Geraldine Kendrick Morris Lindsay (1918-1983). Meyrán: “This species has been dedicated to George and Geraldine Lindsay. Dr. Lindsay is one of
the scientists who has most studied the flora, fauna, and its history, as well as promoting the
creation of animal and floral preserves. In 1967 he published a revision of the Echinocerei of
Baja California, in this magazine.” The original epithet lindsayi (masculine singular) is correctable to lindsayorum (plural) under article 60.8 of the International Code of Nomenclature.
