Etymology

Backeberg (Cactaceae 2: 750), citing T. MacDougall, claims that kinchinjunga is the vernacular name for Epiphyllum stenopetalum in Oaxaca, Mexico. Clive Innes and Charles Glass (The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Cacti, 1997: 101) ascribe the name “Epiphyllum crenatum var. kinchinjunga” to Backeberg (presumably Cactus Lexicon, 1977: 159; as Epiphyllum sp. ‘Kinchinjunga’) and state that the plant is “recorded as being native to mountainous forest areas supposedly named Kinchunjunga [in Guatemala]”. Kangchenjunga or Kanchenjunga is a mountain in the Himalayas.
