Etymology

Latin cylindrus â€˜cylinder’ + Cactus. Used by Phillips & Comus as a name for certain “barrel cacti” (index: “Cylindrocactus 26, 27, 47″; pp. 26-27: “barrel cacti”; p. 47: “barrel cactus (Cylindrocactus and Ferocactus spp.)”). Perhaps based on Ferocactus cylindraceus.

Also found as an error for Cylindropuntia.
